How to play Powerball

Part One

Powerball is very simple to learn and play.

Using the Powerball payslip, players pick five numbers from the "White Ball" section. There are 59 numbers to choose from and each number can only be played once for each play card.

Next, players pick one number from the "Red Powerball" section. There are 39 numbers to choose from in the Red Powerball section.

At the Powerball draw, the winner will be the player who matches the five White Balls and one Powerball.

There are only two more steps neccessary to complete the play slip for Powerball. Read on.

Pick numbers or quick pick?

When playing Powerball, should you use your own carefully selected numbers or quick pick, that is, let the system automatically choose your numbers at random?

Experts say you have the same chances of winning either way!

How To Play Powerball

Part Two

After choosing five white ball numbers and one red Powerball number, there are two more steps players need to take.

First, choose how you wish to get paid if you win! There is the annuity, where the winner receives 30 annual payments over the next 29 years or the Cash Value Option. The Cash Value Option is usually about 50-60% of the original prize. For instance, a recent winner of $260 million received a Cash Value Option prize of about $135 million.

Second, consider playing the Powerplay option. Powerplay increases the winnings of players who get any winning combination of winning numbers short of the jackpot. For instance, if a player correctly picks the five white ball numbers but NOT the red Powerball, they automatically win $200,000.00. Not too shabby, but if they played the additional Powerplay option. that prize amount would have been multiplied by 2,3,4 or 5 times depending upon the multiplier chosen at drawing time. That means the same winner could have won up to $1 million dollars.

Please note, the Powerplay option costs an additional $1 at time of play.
